We have baby-proofed the cottage for your peace of mind. Unfortunately our dock washed away in a flood, but we hope to soon have a new dock and maybe a float for diving. The beach is shale (flat rocks of various sizes), which can be slippery, and sharp if they are turned on their side. Because of that, and the bit of zebra mussels (not a lot), we recommend swim shoes. Since we have a stream that pushes shale out into the lake like a delta, we have lots of shallow water, extending out about 50 feet, for young kids to wade and swim in. Farther out it gets deeper but there is a lot of Asian millfoil, a non-native water weed, that almost every cottage in the Finger Lakes has to deal with. Older kids who are good swimmers can take an inflatable boat out past the weeds and swim off of that. |
